Medical marijuana dispensaries have been open in Virginia since 2020, and the program is continuing to grow. This, of course, means more dispensaries will continue to open for lucky Virginians!
A great feature of Virginia’s program that was recently added is the option to get your medication delivered! That’s right–you can now order your cannabis online to have it delivered to your home! Some dispensaries even offer same-day delivery!
The delivery feature is perfect, because there still are not many dispensaries around the state. Adding the option for delivery ensures that people can still get their medicine in a timely manner even if they don’t live close to a location.
Although recreational marijuana is technically legal in the state of Virginia, nobody will be able to purchase any for a very long time. It’s expected that the state’s recreational market may open in early 2024, but products may not become available for months or years after that because of drug safety regulations.

Where Are Virginia Dispensaries Located?
The Virginia Board of Pharmacy established six zones that will have processors operating. Only five of six are operating at the moment; the state has been slow to open new dispensaries.
This is exactly why Virginia introduced delivery options, which many people in states with medical marijuana programs for years still don’t have!
