Cannabis Dispensary Opening in Salem, VA on Monday August 2nd!

First Retail-Only Cannabis Dispensary opens in Salem on august 2, 2021

On Monday, August 2nd, 2021, residents of the Roanoke Valley will get their own cannabis dispensary.

RISE, Virginia’s first retail-only cannabis dispensary, had its ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 28th. On August 2nd the store will welcome its first customers. Before you can shop there, however, you’ll need to get a medical marijuana recommendation, then register with the state program.

Qualifying for medical marijuana is a simple process, and Virginia Marijuana Card is here to help. Check out our How to Qualify page or give us a call at (888) 633-5808, and one of our patient support representatives will walk you through the process.

More Options Coming for Residents of the Roanoke Valley!

With recreational/adult-use cannabis inaccessible for Virginians who have not chosen the route of growing their own plants, medical marijuana is still the only option for most of us. But even then, it can be a challenge getting what you want. Dispensaries have been pretty limited so far, with the only four operating locations attached to a producer facility and dotting the edges of the Commonwealth.

Though the cannabis dispensaries in Manassas, Richmond, Portland and Abingdon all offer home cannabis delivery services that cover most of the state, residents of Roanoke Valley haven’t had anywhere to physically shop within less than a two-hour drive.

That changes on August 2nd. After RISE opens its doors, medical marijuana patients from anywhere in Virginia can come in and shop on-site for the kinds of products they’ve been waiting for!

Vapes and Tinctures and Edibles, OH MY!

RISE will primarily carry products made by Dharma Pharmaceuticals and GLeaf, including vape pens and cartridges, tinctures, edibles, and concentrates. Patients can find products that are higher in CBD, providing a more gentle pain relief and relaxation experience, or products that are higher in THC, to pack a more powerful punch.

And if concentrates and tinctures aren’t your thing, flower is coming to Virginia dispensaries soon. Likely sometime in September 2021. You’ll want to start the process of getting your medical card now, because the Virginia Board of Healthcare Professionals is taking about six weeks or more to process applications.

Largest Cannabis Company in US Making Plans to Open More Dispensaries in VA

RISE is owned by Green Thumb Industries (GTI), one of the largest cannabis companies in the United States. Abingdon-based Dharma Pharmaceuticals recently merged with GTI, expanding opportunities and funding for medical marijuana dispensary satellites—and eventually adult-use stores as well.
