5 Benefits and Uses of CBD

Updated: Jul 7, 2023

CBD (Cannabidiol) is one of the most prominent cannabinoids that is found in the cannabis plant. Unlike THC, CBD does not produce any psychoactive effects which means there is no ‘high’ feeling that is often associated with using cannabis. This makes CBD a great option for patients who are looking for relief without the ‘buzz.’. Let’s take a look at a few ways it can help.

What Are The Benefits Of CBD Oil?

1. Reduces Inflammation and Pain

Research shows that CBD interacts with our endocannabinoid system (ECS). When you consume CBD, it binds to the receptor sites within our body. When it binds, it creates pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory effects which help with pain management. CBD comes in multiple forms including oil and edibles (gummies, chocolate, etc). However, CBD can also be a topical which can be applied directly to the problem area on the skin for localized relief.

2. Anxiety Relief

Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S. as it affects 40 million adults over the age of 18 every year. The relaxing and calming properties of CBD can not only help alleviate anxiety alone, but it can also be beneficial for providing relief for other types of disorders such as PTSD, OCD, social anxiety and panic disorder.

3. Improve Sleep

If you have trouble sleeping at night, CBD could have the potential to help you get a good night’s rest. CBD can be helpful for alleviating anxiety. If anxiety is a reason an individual has trouble sleeping, using CBD could be beneficial to help calm the mind and fall asleep faster. A study conducted by the Permanente Journal showed that out of 72 adults who consumed CBD oil on a regular basis, 66.7% had improved sleep scores while 79.2% of them had lower anxiety just after the first month.

4. Skin Conditions

Due to CBD’s antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, it can potentially help improve a variety of skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and itchy skin. CBD can be effective in reducing and fighting against acne as it helps decrease the production of sebum in the skin. 5. Anti-Seizure

In 2016, a study was conducted with 214 individuals who were suffering with epilepsy. During the study, participants added an oral dose between 2 to 5mg of CBD every day to their existing epilepsy medications and it was monitored for 12 weeks. The results showed that participants experienced 36.5% fewer seizures per month.

Overall, studies have shown that CBD has promising effects to help alleviate specific conditions, especially due to its lack of psychoactive effects and possible lower potential of experiencing side effects compared to traditional medications.
