New Medical Marijuana Law Goes Into Effect in Virginia

Navigating the process of applying for a medical marijuana card in Virginia just got easier. The most recent change in legislation allows patients to get their Virginia medical marijuana card with only a written certification by a health provider. It is no longer necessary for prospective patients to register with the Board of Pharmacy, which means less hoops to jump through.

When patients had to register with the Board of Pharmacy, it would often take weeks, sometimes months to be approved.

The new law went into effect July 1st, and Virginia dispensaries are already seeing a huge increase in sales. Dispensaries are hiring more staff and products to keep up with demand, which further stimulates the Virginia economy.

How Does the Process Work Now?

Virginia currently allows patients with 19 different qualifying conditions access to medical marijuana. Some of these conditions include chronic pain, anxiety, Crohn’s, PTSD, and MS.

Depression is not currently a qualifying condition in the state of Virginia, but as lawmakers continue to make access to safe medication easier, we can only hope for the addition of new qualifying conditions soon.

Sleep disorders are also not on the list of qualifying conditions as of now, which is highly disappointing. Sleep disorders affect the quality of life of over 70 million Americans nationwide.

If you have documentation stating diagnosis of any of the approved 19 conditions, you can contact our office today and get your written certification from one of our physicians.

We currently have 7 offices open throughout Virginia, but if you don’t feel like physically going to your appointment in-person, you can schedule your 20 minute evaluation with us online and find out if you qualify from the comfort of your own home!

All you need is proof of residency and your written certification, and you will have your medical marijuana card in no time. You can visit any of Virginia’s dispensaries and choose from a wide array of products from tinctures to vapes and flower.

There aren’t a ton of dispensaries open, so you may not have one close to you. Not to worry, you can get your medical marijuana delivered right to your door!
