Incorporating Marijuana Into Your Favorite Holiday Recipes

The holidays are upon us, and one of the best things about this time of year is the food! Lots of families have their own traditions as far as holiday dinners, but did you know you can add cannabis to any of your recipes for a little extra relief?

There are many ways to add cannabis to your meals, but two of the easiest ways are to make cannabis infused oil or cannabutter. Both of these options are pretty straight forward and yield quite a bit of product that can easily be added to any recipe.

From Christmas ham to hot chocolate and cooking to baking, you can add cannabis to any recipe!

Cannabis-Infused Oil

Cannabis oil is relatively easy to make and is probably the best option to use for any recipe you like. The versatility of the oil makes it easy to incorporate into many different meals.

If you are vegan, cannabutter will not work for you, unless you can find a good vegan alternative for butter. However, oil does not contain animal products, so this would be the best option for those who wish to avoid such products.

Cannabis oil is also a bit easier to measure out than cannabutter, but keep in mind that there is no way to know exactly how much THC is in your oil. It will take some experimenting. When you expose your oil to high heat, it can become less potent, so if you can avoid heating it, you should. If you need to heat it, just use a low heat setting.

Any oil will work for this recipe. You can use avocado or coconut oil for a healthier option.

Here is what you will need:

  • Parchment paper

  • Oven or toaster oven

  • Baking sheet

  • Strainer or cheesecloth

  • Saucepan

  • Glass container (mason jar)

  • Grinder for marijuana (optional)

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (between 8-10 grams) of marijuana flower

  • 1 cup of cooking oil of choice

Directions:

  • Set your oven to 245ºF and preheat it.

  • Use your grinder or hands to break down your buds. Make sure your flower isn’t small enough to pass through your strainer. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spread your flower out on it. Heat for 30-40 minutes.

  • Add the oil and cannabis directly to a saucepan and allow them to simmer on low for 2-3 hours. You will want to ensure your oil stays between 150-200ºF

  • Strain the oil into your glass container using a strainer or cheesecloth. Discard your plant material and refrigerate your oil to make it last longer. It can last up to 3 months in the fridge

Cannabutter

If you are interested in making your own cannabutter, it is a great option as well and can be better for baking!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 7-8 grams of cannabis flower

  • 1 cup of butter

  • 1 cup of water

  • A marijuana grinder

  • A baking sheet

  • One pot

  • A coffee filter or cheesecloth

  • A glass container (mason jar)

Directions:

  • Set your oven to 245ºF and preheat it.

  • Use your grinder or hands to break down your buds. Make sure your flower isn’t small enough to pass through your strainer. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spread your flower out on it. Heat for 30-40 minutes.

  • Melt your butter and water together on low heat. It should be between 150-200ºF. You can use a temperature thermometer to measure this.

  • Add your cannabis and cover the pot with a lid. Let the mixture simmer for 3 hours or more. The longer you let it simmer, the more potent it will be. If you choose to cook it for longer, you may need to add more water.

  • Strain your butter with cheesecloth or coffee filters into your glass container and allow it to cool. You can pour the excess water out carefully.
